CORAL SPRINGS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ANNUAL WATER SYSTEM FREE CHLORINE MAINTENANCE
Beginning on July 13th, 2026, and running through July 27th, 2026, the Coral Springs Improvement District will temporarily change our method of chlorinating our treated water to comply with recommendations from the Department of Environmental Protection.
As a result, within this two-week period, you may notice a chlorine taste or odor in your tap water. Watermain flushing will also take place during this period between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A temporary discoloration of the water and a slight reduction in pressure because of Fire Hydrant flushing may also occur.
These temporary conditions should not be harmful to your health. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur. Customers are also advised to set aside water for drinking and cooking purposes, and after flushing in your area to check the water clarity before use. If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes. If conditions persist, please contact the District at 954-753-0380. Additionally, if you are on kidney dialysis, please consult your physician for any special instructions concerning this matter. If you have tropical fish or aquatic animals, please contact your local pet store for advice. Customers with inline filters may want to contact the equipment manufacturer for any precautions that may be required.
If you are especially sensitive to the taste and odor of chlorine, try keeping an open container of drinking water in your refrigerator. This will enable the chlorine to dissipate, thus reducing the chlorine taste. Remember, drinking water has a shelf life. Change out the water in your refrigerated container weekly.
The flushing program serves two important functions. First, it minimizes the build-up of mineral and other sediments, that over time can affect water quality and water flows through the pipes. Secondly, it allows the Water Department to verify the fire hydrants are working properly and available for fire protection.
