Drinking Water Production and Distribution
Our drinking water distribution and production process starts by pumping water to our facility from the Biscayne Aquifer, one of South Florida’s source for potable or drinking water. Our wells are capable of functioning on backup power and generators in case of emergencies. Our staff monitor the district’s wells every day, 24 hours a day. In fact, our entire water plant can function during power outages to continuously provide you with water.
Next, the water goes through several filtration system processes including a robust, technologically advanced reverse osmosis system. The appropriate levels of treatments are applied to meet and exceed all state and federal standards before storage and distribution. Did you know that we have the capacity to store one day’s supply of water in case of an emergency, and we are interconnected with three other border cities? This allows those cities and us to assist each other as needed. The final step of water distribution is for the water to be pumped throughout the district through a distribution of pipes and service lines to your faucets at your home or business.
