Job Title: Water and Wastewater Field Technician-Level 3

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Individuals assigned to this classification are expected to have the mechanical skills and abilities necessary to perform the general manual labor required. Individuals usually work with more experienced employees, but will be expected to work independently to perform relatively routine well-known tasks or more difficult work following specific directions in all aspects of wastewater collection system
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Ability to learn and operate various equipment including a truck, jet truck, dump truck, backhoe/loader, shoring materials, trash pumps and hand tools; perform general maintenance duties including refueling, changing oil and lubricating parts on vehicles; make minor adjustments as necessary.
Inspect water distribution mains and lines for needed maintenance and repairs; participate in the repair of water mains and lines; install clamps, pipe or fittings, make proper tie-ins.
Participate in the re connection of meter services; take meter readings as appropriate.
Participate in the repair and replacement of distribution mains, services, and wastewater force mains and gravity systems.
Trouble shoot to locate the causes of water quality complaints.
Work with outside contractors as required.
Repair and pour concrete and asphalt surfaces in areas of wastewater pipe construction activities.
May handle and transport hazardous materials as assigned.
Remains on-call to respond to emergency situations for repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems or other related problems.
Conduct safety inspections, follow safety rules for waterworks facilities, and develop and participate in tailgate safety meetings.
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Responsible for keeping equipment cleaned and stocked.
Perform other duties as assigned in emergency and no emergency situations.
Communicate effectively with other operators and supervisors on a technical level expected for your position.

Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screening test and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by increasing responsible experience performing maintenance, repair, and construction of water and wastewater systems. The ability to perform responsible and difficult work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
Must complete required Sacramento correspondence course.
Must possess a minimum of a Florida Wastewater collection Class C and Water Distribution Class 3 certificate.
