2026 Smart Irrigation Month – Broward County Proclamation

Proclamation REQUESTED BY SENATOR STEVE GELLER BROWARD COUNTY WHEREAS, Broward County recognizes water as a finite resource that is vital to human life; and WHEREAS, well-maintained green spaces are important to the health and wellbeing of communities and individuals; and WHEREAS, appropriate irrigation technology, combined with best practices, can significantly reduce water usage and runoff while creating healthy lawns, landscaping, and sports turf; and WHEREAS, irrigation plays a critical role in supporting Broward County Water Conservation initiatives; and WHEREAS, the NatureScape Irrigation Services administers the Residential Irrigation Rebate Program, a partnership with 11 water providers to incentivize residential irrigation system upgrades and provide recommendations for improving overall efficiency; and WHEREAS, The Cities of Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miramar, Plantation, Pompano Beach, Sunrise, Wilton Manors, and Broward County Water Wastewater Services promotes smart irrigation practices through stellar participation in the Residential Irrigation Rebate Program, encouraging their residents to install smart irrigation controllers through our rebate program collectively saving over 2.5 million gallons of water annually; and WHEREAS, July is a peak month for the use of water for irrigation, in which smart practices and technologies should be utilized for substantial water savings; and WHEREAS, Smart Irrigation Month was established to increase public awareness of the value of water-use efficiency during summer's peak demand. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA: That the Board hereby designates the month of July as "Smart Irrigation Month" in Broward County, Florida Signed 7-14-2026 By Mayor
