Windstorm Mitigation Project

Coral Springs Improvement District (CSID) and your Board have worked together to facilitate a tree survey along the 22 miles of canal rights-of-way. This important survey, conducted by a certified independent arborist, is part of the District’s ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and well-being of our community.

At the request of the Resident Advisory Committee (RAC), the CSID Board of Supervisors has approved the Tree Inventory Project as a key component of the Windstorm Mitigation Project. The primary goal of this initiative is to assess the volume, health, location and condition of trees and vegetation along the canal system, identifying potential hazards that may pose a risk to safe canal management during storms, as well as a risk to residents or property.

The tree survey collected critical data on several aspects, including:

  • Tree Species, and potential for surviving damaging storm activity
  • Tree Size
  • Location within the right-of-way and proximity to drainage culverts

In the coming weeks, the CSID team, in partnership with the independent engineering firm Globaltech, led by Rick Olson, P.E., will conduct door-to-door outreach with residents who have trees in the District’s right-of-way that have been identified for removal. Mr. Olson has a background in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering and has worked with municipal utilities in south Florida for over 35 years. These conversations will provide residents with important information about the tree removal process.

CSID will also notify neighboring property owners whose parcels will not be impacted by tree removal, ensuring they are informed and aware of the project and its timeline.

The Board has approved Arbor Tree and Land (ATL) to oversee the tree removal process along the District’s canals. The removal will take place at specific access points where trees have been identified for removal. ATL will use a barge to safely and efficiently remove trees along the District’s canals, conducting the removal directly from the barge.

CSID is committed to keeping the community informed and minimizing disruptions throughout the process.
